The Alligators are a group of UK North West playwrights and the sister group of the Antelopes writers group in London.
We were founded in May 2010 at the Everyword Festival at the Liverpool Everyman Theatre and over the course of the next year met bi-monthly in various pubs around Liverpool to get together as a group of playwrights, talk about playwriting and give advice to each other.
That led to Question Swaps with North West theatres where we asked theatres all the questions we wish we could ask and the theatres asked us all the question they wished they could ask writers.
Out of this came the idea for The Alligator Club: 6 pop up productions to take place over the course of a year exploring new writing in the North West.
Our partners on this project were: The Arts Organisation Liverpool, Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, The Dukes Lancaster, Octagon Theatre Bolton, Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester and Theatre by the Lake.
Our funders were the Arts Council England, The Granada Foundation and The Co-operative Community Fund.
